Back in Mississippi, Brett and his wife Deanna relaxed and watched the game.
“See that, Deanna, that kid’s got my name.”
“Brett?”
“No. Favre. It’s his first name. Some crazy couple went and named their kid Favre. Had to be Packer fans. Nothing in the world like a Packer fan.”
“Maybe he’ll be a legend someday like you,” Deanna said, knowing well how to push Brett’s buttons.
“There’s a lot that goes into making a legend,” Brett said, tipping his Coke to her so that the ice cubes clinked against the inside of the glass, knowing full well, after a lifetime together since they first started dating in high school, how to tease her back.
When the big screen in the stadium revealed that cameras had paused on the proud pair with the words Favre Newton’s parents scrolled under their faces, John waved his Bruins flag and pumped his fist in the air, while Kim blushed.
Brett shot forward in his chair, staring at the screen. “How the hell?” he muttered. Kim hadn’t changed much but John was prematurely graying at the temples and had developed a bit of a paunch, but still Brett had no trouble recognizing them.
“What, Brett?” Deanna said, with alarm.
“Remember that strange couple I told you about once-”
